BLOG: Top 5 Methods To Generate Leads Online

By: Kirk Aiden

The world is constantly changing and businesses, big and small need to keep up with the times or they're going to be left behind. Most businesses know how powerful the Internet is, which is why a lot of them have also built an online presence. Some depend entirely on the Internet to do business. Imagine what the potential would be if you own a brick-and-mortar business where customers walk in and in addition, you also have a website where you can take orders and ship products both locally and internationally.

Let's take a look at some really good methods to help you generate leads online and potentially turn these leads into sales and lifelong customers.

1. PPC Advertising

PPC (pay-per-click) or cost per click is a tried and proven method of driving traffic to a website. Have you ever done a search on Google and noticed there are results to the right of your screen, in a column? These results are PPC advertisements. You may also see ads at the top and bottom of the ten search results. When you click on one of these, the advertiser pays a small cost.

This is a very quick and incredibly targeted way of getting leads and customers. The good thing for the advertiser is that the people who click these ads are at a buying stage. They are very open to purchase, so it's worth their while to place such ads. When potential customers click on an ad, they are taken to the website where their emails can be captured. So, even if a customer doesn't buy anything, the advertiser now has their email and can market to them and eventually, they can make the sale. 2. SEO

SEO, or search engine optimization is a method of making your website (or web page) appear high up (or rank well) on a search engine's results for that keyword. These results are natural, or organic results and unlike PPC, you don't have to pay Google or Yahoo or any other search engine. This is a good way of generating traffic and leads, however, it is time-consuming and it can take months for pages to rank well.

The other concern with this method is that Google (the king of search engines) can change their algorithm and your efforts can come crashing down. However, if you know what you're doing and you offer lots of relevant and helpful, quality content, then you don't have to worry too much. Visitors come to your site and are impressed and you can make sales, while collecting their emails for further marketing.

3. Facebook

If your business has a Facebook page (and really, it should), then this is another great way of generating leads. Facebook is the biggest social media platform and because it gets loads of traffic, your page can rank well. You do need to spend time on Facebook and put in the effort and keep posting messages and replies, but you can send people directly to your website, or to an email capture page and get loads of leads and market to these people.

4. Videos

The use of videos is an excellent marketing medium which should be exploited. If you post a video of how your company can help solve problems and offer more information on your company, it can lead to people coming to your site and entering their information. You don't have to post a long video. Even if it's just four minutes long, you can offer information in such a way that viewers are intrigued enough to find out more...then capture their information.

5. Offer Something Free

This is a simple yet powerful trick to get people to give you their emails. When visitors come to your site, offer them something for free, like a report or an e-book. People love free things. Just make sure that whatever you offer them has to be a quality product from which they can gain knowledge or even some help. This builds trust and later on, they'd be more open to your other offers, which means more sales. You offer this free product in exchange for their email. Only by entering their email can they download the free digital product. It's one of the most effective tools to capture leads.

There are other methods such as blogging or an e-newsletter to capture leads but the most important thing is that anything you offer on your site, or in a free, downloadable product in exchange for their information, must be top quality. You need to gain their trust, but once you do, it can skyrocket your sales and many of these people will be your customers for years to come.
